Japanese Geisha doll in red kimono playing Koto string instrument
This is an elegant and graceful oriental doll. The doll has been mounted onto a black lacquered stand. She is wearing a red kimono beautifully decorated with flowers and highlighted with gold colour thread to match. Her hair has been styled into the traditional geisha style decorated by ornate combs, flowers and ribbons.
The doll is poised to play the Koto, a traditional stringed musical instrument introduced to Japan in the 7th century from China. Kotos have 13 strings strung across movable bridges and are played using three fingers; the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger.
