Highly decorated Chinese fans have been admired by collectors for many centuries. The practice of writing or painting on fans is recorded very early. The consort of an emperor in the Han dynasty in 33bc wrote lyrics on fans. By the Sung dynasty, 960-1279 AD painted circular fans had become popular in court circles.
This is a 12 inch radius paper fan. The auspicious red paper has been decorated with gold Chinese calligraphy ‘fu, lu, shou’ wealth, health and prosperity. The fan comes with a wooden stand, perfect for displaying the fan.
In feng shui the fan is one of the nine celestial cures. The fan symbolises auspicious movement of chi and assist in dispersing negative Chi.
