Highly decorated Chinese fans have been admired by collectors for many centuries. The practice of writing or painting on fans is recorded very early. The consort of an emperor in the Han dynasty in 33bc wrote lyrics on fans. By the Sung dynasty, 960-1279 AD painted circular fans had become popular in court circles.
 
 
The frame of this fan is made of bamboo and coated with red lacquer. The fan has been hand painted. The paper is coated with a rich gold paint.  Two Chinese ladies in traditional dress have been painted in a garden with flowers in full bloom.
 
 
In feng shui the fan is one of the nine celestial cures. The fan symbolises auspicious movement of Chi and assist in dispersing negative Chi.
 
 
The fan has a radius of 30”Inc and has two mounting ribbons on the reverse side.
